Serums

Serums give your skin the focused, targeted care that a moisturiser or toner cannot deliver alone. Concentrated and fast-absorbing, each formula is designed to address a specific concern with precision and consistency.

Whether you are targeting hydration, clarity, balance, or calm, you will find a serum here that fits your routine and your skin.

Serums sit at the heart of any focused skincare routine. Applied after toning and before moisturiser, they deliver a concentrated dose of actives to skin that has been prepared and primed to absorb them effectively.

Serum vs Essence vs Ampoule

These three formats are often grouped together but each plays a slightly different role. An essence is the lightest and most conditioning - it prepares the skin for treatment. A serum is more concentrated and targets a specific concern with active ingredients. An ampoule is the most concentrated of all, typically used as a short-term intensive step rather than a daily formula. Most routines benefit from a serum at minimum; adding an essence underneath deepens the hydration base, and an ampoule can be introduced during particular periods when the skin needs extra support.

  • Essence: lightest, conditioning
  • Serum: concentrated, concern-targeted
  • Ampoule: most concentrated, short-term intensive
  • Layer in this order for best results

Choosing the Right Serum for Your Skin Type

The best serum for your skin depends on what your skin most needs. Dry or dehydrated skin benefits from hyaluronic acid or polyglutamic acid serums that restore moisture levels. Oily or combination skin often responds well to niacinamide, which balances sebum and brightens tone. Sensitive skin benefits most from calming formulas with centella, panthenol, or beta-glucan. Dull or uneven skin responds to brightening actives like vitamin C or alpha-arbutin. Choosing by primary concern rather than skin type label often gives the clearest direction.

  • Dry skin: hyaluronic acid or polyglutamic acid
  • Oily skin: niacinamide for balance
  • Sensitive skin: centella and panthenol
  • Dull skin: vitamin C or alpha-arbutin

Layering Multiple Serums

You can layer two serums in the same routine, but more than two is rarely necessary and increases the risk of irritation. Apply the thinner, more water-based formula first, then follow with any richer or oil-based serum. Allow each layer to absorb for thirty to sixty seconds before applying the next. Do not mix incompatible actives - vitamin C and niacinamide are fine together, but strong exfoliating acids and retinol should not be used at the same time. Keep it simple and your skin will respond better.

  • Two serums is usually the maximum
  • Thinnest texture always goes first
  • Wait for absorption between layers
  • Avoid incompatible actives on the same evening

Before or After Toner

Serums always come after toning. The toner primes the skin by rebalancing and softening the surface - this is what allows the serum to absorb evenly and efficiently. Applying serum to skin that has not been toned can result in uneven absorption and wasted product. If you also use an essence, apply it between the toner and serum for a fully conditioned base that helps the serum penetrate more effectively.

  • Toner first, then serum - always
  • Essence between toner and serum if using
  • Toning improves serum absorption
  • Never apply serum to uncleansed skin

What Results to Expect Realistically

Serums work gradually and results build with consistent use. Hydration serums typically show a visible improvement in skin comfort and plumpness within one to two weeks. Brightening and balancing serums often take four to six weeks for meaningful change. Anti-ageing serums require the most patience - visible improvements in fine lines and firmness usually appear after eight to twelve weeks. The most important factor is daily consistency: a serum used sporadically will rarely deliver its intended benefit.

  • Hydration: results within one to two weeks
  • Brightening: four to six weeks for visible change
  • Fine lines: eight to twelve weeks of daily use
  • Consistency is the single most important factor
