The Texture Reset

For the bumps that aren't spots

The gentle-acid lane for the little bumps that are not spots. Smoother by week four, patience always.

4 to 6 weeks. Texture moves slower than spots, faster than marks.

This is for you if…

  • Tiny colourless bumps across the forehead or cheeks
  • 'Chicken skin' texture that concealer sinks into
  • Not acne — they never come to a head, they just stay
  • Scrubbing made it angrier, not smoother
  • You want touchable smooth, not an advert's promise

What’s going on

Those colourless bumps are mostly sealed-over pores. A small plug of old cells and oil, with skin closed over the top. They are not swollen, so spot creams miss them. And scrubbing — force against a chemistry problem — upsets the skin around them while the bumps sit tight.

The chemistry answer: gentle acids that dissolve the glue and the plugs. PHA — the biggest, gentlest acid — as the near-daily lane. AHA once a week for the stronger pass. Plus rich barrier care, because rough skin over stripped skin is how this cycle restarts.

What causes it

  • Old cells overstaying. Turnover slows with age, thirst and sun.
  • Rich leftovers. Heavy products and unwashed SPF feed sealed pores.
  • Scrub damage. Tiny tears that heal rough. The texture 'cure' that causes texture.
  • Hair products. Forehead bump colonies often map to fringe and wax lines.

The plan at a glance

The rhythm

  1. PHA toner. Start 3 evenings a week. Build to nightly if comfortable.
  2. AHA. One evening a week, replacing PHA that night, on the bumpy zones.
  3. Feed. Ceramide cream nightly. Renewal needs refilling.
  4. SPF daily. The acid contract, as always.

The steps

The weekly acid

Weekly

Unglues the dull layer. Once a week is the whole trick

An exfoliating acid dissolves the glue holding old surface cells on. The newer surface underneath shows through. Quick smoothness, building glow.

Why it matters: Skin renewal slows with age, stress and thirst. Dull, rough skin is old cells overstaying. One well-dosed acid evening does what daily scrubbing pretends to. Without the damage bill.

How to do it: One evening a week to start. On dry skin after washing. Nothing else strong that night. Hydrate and seal after. Go to twice weekly only after four comfortable weeks. Morning SPF is part of the deal.

How to choose between these

BOJ's Green Plum toner is the mildest entry. Isntree's Chestnut AHA 8% is the proper weekly tool. epii's PHA toner is the sensitive-skin lane. PHA is the biggest, gentlest acid.

Polish (the satisfying option)

Weekly

The visible-results night, used honestly

A peeling gel rolls up surface debris and old cells as you massage. Gentle polishing with a before-your-eyes effect.

Why it matters: Optional, and it alternates with the acid night. Never joins it. Its honest role: quick smoothness before events, and the small win that keeps a renewal habit alive.

How to do it: On clean, dry-ish skin, massage light circles for 30 to 60 seconds. Rinse. Alternate weeks with the acid, or save for the night before occasions. Never on upset skin.

Feed the barrier

Morning & evening

The fats your skin stopped making, delivered daily

Ceramide and beta-glucan creams restock the fats your skin no longer supplies itself. The difference between skin that feels fragile and skin that feels solid.

Why it matters: This dryness is not surface-deep. The skin's wall is getting fewer raw materials. Feeding it directly, daily, on damp skin, is the core of the whole shift.

How to do it: On damp skin after the water layers, morning and evening. Thicker at night. This is the step never to skip on a lazy day.

Aestura 365 is the ceramide flagship. iUNIK's Beta-Glucan 3X is the deeper-moisture route when skin wants even more cushion.

Protect

Morning

The one step that beats every serum

SPF50+ blocks the daily sun that drives early lines, dark marks and skin damage. Including through windows, and on cloudy British days.

Why it matters: For a beginner, sunscreen gives more long-term benefit than any fancy ingredient you could buy. Skipping it quietly undoes the other three steps. It is a habit from day one in every plan we publish.

How to do it: Two finger-lengths for face and neck, as the last morning step. Top up if you are outdoors for long. Yes, even in winter.

BEAUTY OF JOSEON Relief Sun is the loved everyday classic. Light, dewy, no white cast. HARUHARU Pure Mineral if your skin is very reactive. Mineral SPF sits on top of skin, so it is the gentler choice.

What to expect

  • Weeks 1–2 — the skin between bumps smooths first. Makeup stops catching.
  • Weeks 3–5 — the bumps thin out as plugs dissolve from above. Do not help with fingernails.
  • Week 6 — judge by touch, not by magnifying mirror. Colonies that never move may be milia or something else. A GP or skin doctor can tell you in one look.

Do & don’t

Do

Check your hair products if the bumps map to your hairlineSometimes the answer is the wax.
Keep the evening oil-melt goingIt starves new plugs.
Judge weekly with a fingertip sweepTouch is the honest tool here.

Don’t

Do not scrubThis protocol exists because scrubbing fails at this.
Do not squeeze sealed bumpsThere is no exit. You would be building one from scar.
Do not use PHA and AHA on the same eveningGentle twice is still stacking.
