The Night Shift

The proper evening wind-down, in order

The evening order, settled for good. Melt, wash, water, seal. Every night runs the same quiet programme.

About 12 minutes an evening. Automatic within 2 weeks.

This is for you if…

  • Your evening routine is whatever happens between sofa and bed
  • Some nights it is everything, some nights nothing
  • You own the products; the order is the mystery
  • Makeup or SPF sometimes stays the night
  • You want the final answer on evening order

What’s going on

The evening matters most. It takes the day off your skin — sunscreen, oil, city air. And it sets up the night, when skin repairs. The order follows simple logic. Remove before you add. Water before oil. Melt, wash, water, seal.

This protocol states that frame once, clearly. Your serums and treatments slot into the middle, as their own protocols direct. On big-repair nights the sleeping pack takes the last slot.

What causes it

Where evenings fall apart:

  • The sofa. Routines attempted after 11pm mostly do not happen.
  • Guessed order. Serum over cream one day, the other way the next. Results untraceable.
  • The skipped second cleanse. SPF left in pores overnight.
  • All-or-nothing. No energy for five steps, so zero happen.

The plan at a glance

Every evening, in order

  1. Melt — oil cleanse on SPF or makeup days.
  2. Wash — the gentle cleanser.
  3. Water — toner on damp skin. Treatments slot in here.
  4. Seal — moisturiser. Sleeping pack on repair nights.

Tired-night minimum: wash, water, seal. Three minutes. Still counts.

The steps

Melt

Evening

Sunscreen and makeup melted, not scrubbed

Oil dissolves oil. A cleansing oil or balm bonds with sunscreen, makeup and the day's grime. They lift away with water. No rubbing needed.

Why it matters: Modern SPF is built to survive water and sweat. A foam alone cannot fully remove it. Trying means scrubbing. The oil does the chemistry so your hands do not do the damage.

How to do it: Dry face, dry hands. Massage slow circles for about a minute. Add a splash of water and massage until milky. Rinse well, then use your gentle cleanser.

How to choose between these

The BOJ Ginseng oil is the silky classic. Haruharu's Black Rice oil is the lighter, fragrance-aware pick. The BOJ Radiance balm is the solid version. Same job, travels well.

Cleanse

Morning & evening

Clean skin without the tight, squeaky feeling

Removes oil, sweat, sunscreen and the day's grime at pH 5.5. That is your skin's own level. Washing takes off the day, not your skin's protection.

Why it matters: This is the step most people get wrong first. A harsh wash quietly causes the tightness and flaking the rest of a routine then has to fix. Start gentle and half of 'problem skin' never happens.

How to do it: Evening: massage gently for 30 to 60 seconds in lukewarm water. Rinse, pat dry. Morning: a lukewarm rinse is enough if your skin leans dry.

How to choose between these

Both sit at skin's own pH, so pick by feel. The HARUHARU gel is soft and non-foaming. The safest pick if your skin ever feels tight after washing. The Soon Jung foam gives a light lather if you like a little foam.

Hydrate

Morning & evening

The first drink of water your skin gets all day

A Korean toner is not the harsh splash your parents used. It is a light layer of water-grabbers. It returns moisture the moment washing ends, and gives your cream something to seal in.

Why it matters: Freshly washed skin loses water fast. Watering it within a minute is the simplest habit in skincare with the most visible payoff.

How to do it: While skin is still damp, pour a little into your palms and press it in until absorbed. Palms, not cotton pads.

  • Panthenol
  • Hyaluronic Acid

How to choose between these

Soon Jung if your skin often feels upset. Its panthenol calms while it hydrates. HARUHARU's hyaluronic toner if tightness is your main feeling.

Moisturise

Morning & evening

Seals the water in, morning and night

Puts a light layer of fats and water-grabbers over the toner. The water you just added stays in your skin instead of drying off.

Why it matters: Water without a seal fades within the hour. The moisturiser turns steps one and two into lasting comfort.

How to do it: A pea-to-hazelnut amount pressed onto still-damp skin. Press and smooth, do not scrub it in. A little more at night is fine.

  • Oat
  • Centella Asiatica

How to choose between these

The Purito Oat-In gel if you are combination-to-oily or dislike creams. Oat calms, and the gel disappears into skin. The Purito centella cream if you are normal-to-dry or your skin runs reactive.

Seal it overnight

Weekly

Everything the mask gave you, still there in the morning

A sleeping pack is a slow-release seal. Thicker than a night cream. It holds the evening's water in place through eight hours of dry bedroom air.

Why it matters: Mask night without a seal is a leaky bucket. The water you soaked in dries off by 2am. The pack turns a nice ritual into a visible morning-after difference.

How to do it: A thin, even layer as your final step. It replaces your usual night cream. Give it five minutes to set before your pillow.

  • Ceramides

How to choose between these

Purito's Dermide pack is the skin-wall pick — the same one our Barrier Reset uses. Numbuzin No.6 is for very thirsty skin. Medicube's night wrap gives the bounciest finish.

What to expect

  • Week 1 — the order stops needing thought. Your hands learn it.
  • Week 2 — mornings inherit the difference. Clean skin repairs better overnight.
  • Ongoing — the routine becomes the day's off-switch. Many people love that part most. Both parts are real.
