His First Routine

Four products. Five minutes. No aisle anxiety.

Four products. Five minutes. No aisle anxiety. Better skin in a month, a calmer shave this week.

5 minutes a day. Visibly calmer skin in 3 to 4 weeks.

This is for you if…

  • Your routine is a 3-in-1 shower gel and hope
  • Shaving is the only care your face gets
  • Someone you live with keeps hinting (they are right)
  • 'Men's skincare' marketing puts you off — fair
  • You would do it if someone just said what to buy and do

What’s going on

Men's skin is the same organ with a few settings changed. Usually oilier, a bit thicker, and shaved often. Shaving scrapes the surface several times a week. Then tradition splashes alcohol on it. Most 'bad skin' in men is that combination plus a 3-in-1 wash.

The routine: wash gently once or twice a day. Press in one toner — thirty seconds. Smooth on a gel moisturiser — invisible, not greasy. SPF in the morning — the one step with lifelong stakes. Shave days add the soothe step. That is the whole system. Skin does not read 'for men' labels, so you do not need to pay for them.

What causes it

Why it got like this:

  • The 3-in-1. Hair soap is not face soap. The tight feeling after is your skin objecting.
  • Blade plus alcohol. Scrape, then strip, for years.
  • No SPF history. The main reason men's sun damage runs ahead at every age.
  • The marketing. Everything 'for men' looked like an energy drink. Fair enough. Ignore it.

The plan at a glance

Morning (2 minutes)

  1. Wash or rinse. Shaving? Do the shave, then the soothe step.
  2. Toner pressed in, gel moisturiser over it.
  3. SPF. Two fingers' worth. Every day.

Evening (90 seconds)

  1. Wash. Toner. Gel. Done.

The steps

Cleanse

Morning & evening

Clean skin without the tight, squeaky feeling

Removes oil, sweat, sunscreen and the day's grime at pH 5.5. That is your skin's own level. Washing takes off the day, not your skin's protection.

Why it matters: This is the step most people get wrong first. A harsh wash quietly causes the tightness and flaking the rest of a routine then has to fix. Start gentle and half of 'problem skin' never happens.

How to do it: Evening: massage gently for 30 to 60 seconds in lukewarm water. Rinse, pat dry. Morning: a lukewarm rinse is enough if your skin leans dry.

How to choose between these

Both sit at skin's own pH, so pick by feel. The HARUHARU gel is soft and non-foaming. The safest pick if your skin ever feels tight after washing. The Soon Jung foam gives a light lather if you like a little foam.

Hydrate

Morning & evening

The first drink of water your skin gets all day

A Korean toner is not the harsh splash your parents used. It is a light layer of water-grabbers. It returns moisture the moment washing ends, and gives your cream something to seal in.

Why it matters: Freshly washed skin loses water fast. Watering it within a minute is the simplest habit in skincare with the most visible payoff.

How to do it: While skin is still damp, pour a little into your palms and press it in until absorbed. Palms, not cotton pads.

  • Panthenol
  • Hyaluronic Acid

Soon Jung if your skin often feels upset. Its panthenol calms while it hydrates. HARUHARU's hyaluronic toner if tightness is your main feeling.

Moisturise

Morning & evening

Seals the water in, morning and night

Puts a light layer of fats and water-grabbers over the toner. The water you just added stays in your skin instead of drying off.

Why it matters: Water without a seal fades within the hour. The moisturiser turns steps one and two into lasting comfort.

How to do it: A pea-to-hazelnut amount pressed onto still-damp skin. Press and smooth, do not scrub it in. A little more at night is fine.

  • Oat
  • Centella Asiatica

How to choose between these

The Purito Oat-In gel if you are combination-to-oily or dislike creams. Oat calms, and the gel disappears into skin. The Purito centella cream if you are normal-to-dry or your skin runs reactive.

Soothe the shave

Morning

Post-shave fire, out in ninety seconds

A panthenol toner pressed onto just-shaved skin calms the tiny nicks a blade leaves. An oat gel seals over them. It replaces the alcohol splash that made everything worse.

Why it matters: Shaving scrapes skin along with stubble. Classic aftershaves add alcohol to the fresh scrape. Panthenol and oat do the opposite. That is why the redness actually stops.

How to do it: Rinse cool after shaving. Press the toner in with palms while skin is damp. A thin layer of the gel on top. Razor-burn zones get a second pass of toner.

Protect

Morning

The one step that beats every serum

SPF50+ blocks the daily sun that drives early lines, dark marks and skin damage. Including through windows, and on cloudy British days.

Why it matters: For a beginner, sunscreen gives more long-term benefit than any fancy ingredient you could buy. Skipping it quietly undoes the other three steps. It is a habit from day one in every plan we publish.

How to do it: Two finger-lengths for face and neck, as the last morning step. Top up if you are outdoors for long. Yes, even in winter.

How to choose between these

BEAUTY OF JOSEON Relief Sun is the loved everyday classic. Light, dewy, no white cast. HARUHARU Pure Mineral if your skin is very reactive. Mineral SPF sits on top of skin, so it is the gentler choice.

What to expect

  • Week 1 — the post-wash tightness and post-shave burn stop. That is most of the discomfort gone.
  • Weeks 2–4 — calmer shave zones, evener tone, the 'you look well' that people notice but cannot name.
  • Long term — the SPF habit quietly becomes the best decision of your forties. You will have opinions about toners by then. It happens to everyone.

Do & don’t

Do

Keep the four bottles in sightVisible routines survive.

Share the gentle cleanser with whoever hintedThat is half of why they hinted.

Don’t

Do not buy anything labelled 'turbo' or 'for men' at a premiumSame stuff, worse fragrance.
Do not go back to the 3-in-1 for your faceFeet, fine. Face, no.
Do not skip SPF because 'men don't'That statistic IS the sun-damage statistic.
