First Calm

For anyone starting skincare — or starting over

Four easy steps, five minutes a day. A base your skin can trust.

3 weeks to make it a habit. Then it is your base for good.

This is for you if…

  • You are new to skincare and unsure where to start
  • You own lots of products but no routine
  • Your skin acts up and you cannot tell why
  • Long routines put you off — you want five minutes
  • You did too much to your skin and want a fresh start

What’s going on

Skin has four daily needs. Clean it gently. Give it water. Keep that water in. Protect it from the sun. That is all.

Every serum and mask is an extra on top of these four. First Calm is the four jobs done well. One product each, morning and evening. Get this right and everything you add later works better.

What causes it

Most skin trouble starts with a routine built in the wrong order:

  • Starting with strong products before the basics.
  • Buying what is trending, not what your skin needs.
  • Adding five new products in one weekend. If skin reacts, you cannot tell which one did it.
  • Skipping sunscreen.
  • Changing products every week. Skin needs weeks to show you what works.

The plan at a glance

Morning

  1. Cleanse — or just rinse if your skin is dry.
  2. Hydrate — press the toner in with your palms.
  3. Moisturise — seal it in while skin is damp.
  4. Protect — two finger-lengths of SPF, every morning.

Evening

  1. Cleanse properly. 30 to 60 seconds, lukewarm water.
  2. Hydrate — same toner, same palms.
  3. Moisturise — a little more than the morning.

The steps

Cleanse

Morning & evening

Clean skin without the tight, squeaky feeling

Removes oil, sweat, sunscreen and the day's grime at pH 5.5. That is your skin's own level. Washing takes off the day, not your skin's protection.

Why it matters: This is the step most people get wrong first. A harsh wash quietly causes the tightness and flaking the rest of a routine then has to fix. Start gentle and half of 'problem skin' never happens.

How to do it: Evening: massage gently for 30 to 60 seconds in lukewarm water. Rinse, pat dry. Morning: a lukewarm rinse is enough if your skin leans dry.

Most suitable productschoose one

Pick the one you want. You can also add another product from this step.

How to choose between these

Both sit at skin's own pH, so pick by feel. The HARUHARU gel is soft and non-foaming. The safest pick if your skin ever feels tight after washing. The Soon Jung foam gives a light lather if you like a little foam.

Hydrate

Morning & evening

The first drink of water your skin gets all day

A Korean toner is not the harsh splash your parents used. It is a light layer of water-grabbers. It returns moisture the moment washing ends, and gives your cream something to seal in.

Why it matters: Freshly washed skin loses water fast. Watering it within a minute is the simplest habit in skincare with the most visible payoff.

How to do it: While skin is still damp, pour a little into your palms and press it in until absorbed. Palms, not cotton pads.

  • Panthenol
  • Hyaluronic Acid

How to choose between these

Soon Jung if your skin often feels upset. Its panthenol calms while it hydrates. HARUHARU's hyaluronic toner if tightness is your main feeling.

Moisturise

Morning & evening

Seals the water in, morning and night

Puts a light layer of fats and water-grabbers over the toner. The water you just added stays in your skin instead of drying off.

Why it matters: Water without a seal fades within the hour. The moisturiser turns steps one and two into lasting comfort.

How to do it: A pea-to-hazelnut amount pressed onto still-damp skin. Press and smooth, do not scrub it in. A little more at night is fine.

  • Oat
  • Centella Asiatica

How to choose between these

The Purito Oat-In gel if you are combination-to-oily or dislike creams. Oat calms, and the gel disappears into skin. The Purito centella cream if you are normal-to-dry or your skin runs reactive.

Protect

Morning

The one step that beats every serum

SPF50+ blocks the daily sun that drives early lines, dark marks and skin damage. Including through windows, and on cloudy British days.

Why it matters: For a beginner, sunscreen gives more long-term benefit than any fancy ingredient you could buy. Skipping it quietly undoes the other three steps. It is a habit from day one in every plan we publish.

How to do it: Two finger-lengths for face and neck, as the last morning step. Top up if you are outdoors for long. Yes, even in winter.

How to choose between these

BEAUTY OF JOSEON Relief Sun is the loved everyday classic. Light, dewy, no white cast. HARUHARU Pure Mineral if your skin is very reactive. Mineral SPF sits on top of skin, so it is the gentler choice.

What to expect

This protocol builds a base. So the wins are about steady skin, not big changes:

  • Week 1 — the routine feels like effort. Your skin may look the same. That is normal.
  • Week 2 — fewer ups and downs. Less tightness, less shine, fewer rough patches.
  • Week 3 — the routine runs itself. Your skin feels steady. Now you know your skin's normal.

Ready for more? Add one thing for your main concern. Give it two weeks. Our other protocols are built for that next step.
