The Double Cleanse

For evenings that end in sunscreen, makeup or city air

Two extra minutes each evening. Truly clean skin with no scrubbing at all.

A habit from the first evening

This is for you if…

  • You wear SPF daily but wash it off with one quick foam
  • Makeup traces on your pillowcase in the morning
  • Cleansing wipes still live in your bathroom
  • Skin feels filmy after washing, or sore from scrubbing
  • Small bumps along your hairline and jaw

What’s going on

The double cleanse is one simple idea. Oil dissolves oil. Sunscreen, makeup and your skin's own oil will not fully wash off with foam alone. That is why one wash leaves a film. And why rubbing harder became a habit.

So we split the job in two. First an oil melts everything away. No rubbing needed. Then a gentle wash rinses the rest. No SPF or makeup today? One gentle cleanse is enough.

What causes it

Why one evening wash is not enough:

  • Modern SPF is made to survive water and sweat. It survives your foam too.
  • Left-over sunscreen and makeup sit in your pores overnight.
  • Scrubbing takes off what is left behind — and healthy skin with it.
  • Wipes smear more than they remove. And they drag your skin.
  • Hot water melts your skin's own good oils too. Not a win.

The plan at a glance

Evening (SPF or makeup days)

  1. Melt — oil or balm on a dry face. One slow minute. Add water, massage, rinse.
  2. Wash — your gentle cleanser, 30 to 60 seconds.
  3. Rehydrate — toner on damp skin within a minute.

Morning

No double cleanse needed. A gentle wash or a rinse is fine.

The steps

Melt

Evening

Sunscreen and makeup melted, not scrubbed

Oil dissolves oil. A cleansing oil or balm bonds with sunscreen, makeup and the day's grime. They lift away with water. No rubbing needed.

Why it matters: Modern SPF is built to survive water and sweat. A foam alone cannot fully remove it. Trying means scrubbing. The oil does the chemistry so your hands do not do the damage.

How to do it: Dry face, dry hands. Massage slow circles for about a minute. Add a splash of water and massage until milky. Rinse well, then use your gentle cleanser.

How to choose between these

The BOJ Ginseng oil is the silky classic. Haruharu's Black Rice oil is the lighter, fragrance-aware pick. The BOJ Radiance balm is the solid version. Same job, travels well.

Cleanse

Morning & evening

Clean skin without the tight, squeaky feeling

Removes oil, sweat, sunscreen and the day's grime at pH 5.5. That is your skin's own level. Washing takes off the day, not your skin's protection.

Why it matters: This is the step most people get wrong first. A harsh wash quietly causes the tightness and flaking the rest of a routine then has to fix. Start gentle and half of 'problem skin' never happens.

How to do it: Evening: massage gently for 30 to 60 seconds in lukewarm water. Rinse, pat dry. Morning: a lukewarm rinse is enough if your skin leans dry.

How to choose between these

Both sit at skin's own pH, so pick by feel. The HARUHARU gel is soft and non-foaming. The safest pick if your skin ever feels tight after washing. The Soon Jung foam gives a light lather if you like a little foam.

Hydrate

Morning & evening

The first drink of water your skin gets all day

A Korean toner is not the harsh splash your parents used. It is a light layer of water-grabbers. It returns moisture the moment washing ends, and gives your cream something to seal in.

Why it matters: Freshly washed skin loses water fast. Watering it within a minute is the simplest habit in skincare with the most visible payoff.

How to do it: While skin is still damp, pour a little into your palms and press it in until absorbed. Palms, not cotton pads.

  • Panthenol
  • Hyaluronic Acid

Soon Jung if your skin often feels upset. Its panthenol calms while it hydrates. HARUHARU's hyaluronic toner if tightness is your main feeling.

What to expect

  • Tonight — wipe a toner-soaked cotton pad over your face after your usual wash. Try it again after a double cleanse tomorrow. The pad will show you the difference.
  • Weeks 1–2 — skin feels clean without feeling stripped.
  • Weeks 3–4 — hairline and jaw bumps start to clear.
